Student Placement

At BrizBrain & Spine, we often get the opportunity to provide experience for medical students and in December, we welcomed first year medical student, Nick Candy from James Cook University in Townsville,  for two weeks of work placement.

In his time here, Nick was able to observe consultations and operations with our surgeons, and to see how a busy practice with five neurosurgeons functions.  Nick also got to experience the reality of a surgery that wasn’t finished until 1am in the morning.

“The two weeks I have had at BrizBrain and Spine have been an excellent experience that I am very grateful of having. I was able to understand and experience the processes involved at all levels of patient care from the bookings of their appointments, to the surgical techniques involved in treating them, to the role of educating the patient about their condition and finally how the patient was diagnosed with their condition.

All the doctors, nurses and staff were extremely friendly and eager to educate me about their role. This placement has given me the chance to be exposed to all aspects of neurosurgery which is exactly what I wanted to gain from my placement.”

We wish Nick all the best in his future medical studies!
